How to Interview – Or Not

Let’s change directions just a bit today and talk about staffing.  A relevant topic for every organization that has employees.  How do you find the right people to do the work that your organization needs done?  How much time do you spend making sure that they are the right person?  The interview process can be grinding for both the interviewer and the interviewee.  Maybe it is time to change that.

Seth on Seth Godin’s Blog has a concept that I resonate with greatly.  Quit interviewing!  It is that simple.  Okay, there are some logistical issues to work out but I find the idea innovative and intriguing.  Having recently sat in on interviews as both a prospective employee and as and employer I have found myself wishing for a better way.  Check out his post here.  Hopefully, you will find these concepts food for thought.

  1. Take a look at counter-intuitive new book on interviews for new college grad looking for first post-college job. I’s called “Beat-the-Odds Interviews” by Dr. Melvin Sorcher, an organizational psychologist. Book website and lot of info is at: beat-the-oddsinterviews.com It’s a process that is based on the probability of that most interviewers ask poor questions and don’t know how to interpret the answers. This small book, written specifically for new college grads, provides you with an incredibly effective way to take an interview.
