Random Thoughts on Life and Work

Your First Donor

Seth’s Blog has an interesting post that got me to thinking this afternoon.    How do we interact with first time donors?  And what do they really think about us?

I think we often believe that the important question is, “What brought them to us?” or “What made them gift a gift today?” I think we tend to believe that everyone has heard of our organization and the wonderful work we do.  However, maybe we are focusing on the wrong aspect.

Your donor, has made his first gift.  He is here now.  He doesn’t know what it took to get your organization where it is today.  In fact, to him, that is probably irrelevant.  He lives and breathes your mission now.  How are your going to keep him engaged?

Just a thought.
